Description
Uncolored map illustrating the history of the ancient Roman Empire from a late edition of 'The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britaine' by John Speed. Decorative vignettes frame the map illustrating the dress of men and women of different Mediterranean countries (Spanish, Turkish, Moroccan, Italian, and Egyptian) and panoramas of important cities (Rome, Geneva, Jerusalem, Venice, Constantinople, and Alexandria). A plaque at the bottom of the map contains a description on "A short Declaration of Ye Beginning, Increase & Height of Ye Romane Empire."
